? quick failure (quick update)

the quickest way to be a failure is to set up a target and have no intention of fulfilling it.

as to my latest target, i'm guilty as charged. boohooo..!! not that i don't have intention to fulfil it, but schedule was busy like hell.. excuses excuses.. but seriously, work itself was busy, then the trouble of having a fastidious boss, lotsa trips to arrange (not mine, unfortunately), meetings to set up and prepared, report to make.. blah blah blah.. but at the end of the day (and week), am just glad it's all over & done (thank God). just take it one day at a time, they say. it's true, one day at a time makes it less of a burden.

anyway, the target/challenge/project/deadline (whatever u call it) was a short story (in bahasa) competition in 1 of woman's magazines. i don't really read the magz, was browsing through it last weekend while i was having one of beuatifying moments (blaah).. i did try to work on it on my mind, searching of ideas, worked on a plot, but when i got the time to write them down they just evaporate... :(

commitment. yes, that's what i need to make the next time i come up with such ideas. hmmm...

searching for ideas

burnt out!
run out of ideas!

run out of ideas for writing project is bad enough, worse is when NO idea at all even for writing one's blog. ugh!

a little update of what's going on around me...

* younger bro had his birthday. he's turned 23 this year. the growing pains.. is the pain emphasized if he has to live up to his sibbling's standards? tried to "eaze up" the pain by preparing a nice lunch to celebrate the special day. the least we could do ;)

* got this writing proj, deadline is next week (July 31). the problem with writing like this is when you're allowed to write anything. 2nd prob is writing in bahasa. bukan sok bukan congkak, keseringan nulis pake inggris jd agak2 ribet pake bahasa.. so we'll see, if i don't write anything in this blog til then, i must be busy working on that project, if i find any idea at all..

* oh, 1 other thing, cankersores r gone... finally.. thank God!

Gals don’t know it all...

It happened ever too often when gals, best friends think they know it all. They know each other’s character, likes and dislikes, daily activities, even the kind of partner our friends should end up with. I don’t pretend to know all my gal friends down to the intimate detail but once in a while the temptation to ask them were so strong.. “what is she doing with a guy like that? what does she see in him?"

NO OFFENSE, I’m not anti men (& definitely not a lesbo!!), just consider myself as a bit protective to my closest friends. C’mon admit it, there are just people you feel doubtful at a first glance. And I know my friends, the high quality jomblos (read: singleton) deserve better. Sometimes I let it be, sometimes I popped the question so they could have good think and re-think before making the big decision. In the end, it’s their lives, their decision. I could only hope for the best.

Talk about decision, I wanna wish all the best for Ketty & Rudy who were brave enough to make that decision and tied the knot…
I get to see the power of “super fed up” ;)

ps. don’t get all too smug, this entry has NUTHIN to do with you!! *grin*

cankersoresss !!

Should be writing, but here I am sitting in front of the computer doing nothing but clicking.  Can't concentrate. :(  It's been a week since these cankersores bugging me and cause me endless headache.  Got three of them. THREE!! (any of you ever had more than that?).  One in the size of Kalimantan, the other two (they look like twin as they're positioned opposite to each other) in the size of Madura. Seriously, I'm not exaggerating, they're huge for cankersores.. ouch!!

And a week is just way too long, for that length of time I couldn't figure out what could be the cause. Too much sambal? Late night sleep? Imbalanced enzime? Mixed of everything? Don't think so.. Yeah, admit the sambal consumption, but I always make sure I get enough sleep, while enzime.. it's out of my hand. Took high dose of vit. c, enzimplex (sp?), gargle with betadine mouthwash, and last resort was applying abothyl (hurt like hell! masochist!), but no luck. The next day the twin was enlarged to the size of Bali (wait, Bali is larger than Madura, no?)

.. ugh.. so with a blank mind I'm stuck, playing  backgammon .  Anybody wanna play?

*) Backgammon is a game for two players, played on a board consisting of twenty-four narrow triangles called points. The triangles alternate in color and are grouped into four quadrants of six triangles each. The quadrants are referred to as a player's home board and outer board, and the opponent's home board and outer board. The home and outer boards are separated from each other by a ridge down the center of the board called the bar.  --  Copyright © 1994 - 1998 JellyFish AS

The Terminal

After watching ‘Cast Away’ one cannot not want to house and protect Tom Hanks, after what he “went through” in the land of nowhere living quasi Robinson Crusoe life.  Should have been titled 'Cast Away Part II’ where the main idea is similar:  survival of the fittest

WHO:  Viktor Navorski, a visitor from Eastern Europe imaginary country, Krakhozia.

WHEN:  present, to be precise during war time in the Krakhozia (don’t bother looking up in your history book).

WHERE:  JFK airport, Gate 67 – NY.

WHY:  as he landed in US his country was declared in a state of war. This part has to be questioned a bit, does one lost one’s nationality just because one’s country is at war? I believe not.  Unless I receive good explanation on this (anybody?), I’d just consider it as a premise made up for the sake of the movie.

HOW:  adapt, be creative!!  If you ever get stuck in a situation where it seems there’s nothing you could do to resolve it, make sure to keep your eyes open to the slimmest chance.  Viktor assigned himself as a porter collecting trolley and place them in its counter which afterward will spit out a quarter for each trolley.   When the position was taken over by an airport crew Viktor became love messenger for a guy who worked at the food transportation.  Viktor was guaranteed daily meals in exchange of his service (which is acting as a courtship mediator – hilarious!).  He later found a better job doing construction work around the terminal.

Basically it’s enjoyable watching Tom Hanks (as always) doing his thing.  Raising a theme without trying too hard to make us think.  Life is waiting.  It might be for a flight to take us somewhere, for a doctor’s appointment, for the busway, for an answer, for a person.. the list goes on.. Gosh, do you realize how much time spent (lost? wasted?) for those waits?  Especially when you remain idle??

germs.. virus..?

it's interesting to just watch yr body gets weak over a few days, gets occasional headaches & fatigue after a long day at work. a long night sleep seem never enough, but then you have to get back to work. regular flu for me that comes once in a while. pretty soon i'll start sneezing, runny nose, fever...

but before it gets there i'm intended to fight it. eat highly nutritious food, consume vitamins, sleep a lot.. i don't really like taking medicine, so better stop it.

in the mean time, i'll just watch how long it'll take to kill these germs or virus or both??

whoa!!!

check this out...

Let a=1

Let b=1

Therefore a=b

Multiplying both sides by a gives a2=ab

Subtract 1 from the left and b (which equals 1) from the right: a2-1=ab-b

If you remember your quadratic equations, this factors to: (a+1)(a-1)=b(a-1)

Dividing both sides by a-1, we have a+1=b, or 1+1=1

Therefore 2=1

Bread Talk

Recently in three out of six mailing lists I’m subscribed to the discussion focused on bread talk.  Nope, they’re not talking about secret recipes in making breads, but Bread Talk  the brand.  Bakery franchise originated from Singapore.  I think the product enters the country less than a year ago, but it was a big hit (or still is, if you notice the queu of people in every outlet).

It’s only recently the news spread that POM MUI claim it as a non-halal food.  Well hello, where were you the past few months?  Suspiciously speaking, this seem to be a scheme where a group of people are trying to smear the product’s brand, or worse, POM MUI working their way to have the ‘right’ to decide what is halal and what is not.

Interesting to see how people reacted to the news.  Some try to defend MUI’s legitimate position to protect the moslems, some question DepKes’ POM’s position, which should be considered more legitimate, some took the easiest path, that is to enjoy the tasty bread as there’s no way that we can guarantee 100% that everything we consume is pork-free.

Logically chain resto (or in this case bakery) should stick to the original recipe, utensils used, etc.  From what I see Bread Talk’s bakeries here don’t vend pork meat contained bread like the ones they have in Singapore (dang!), but who knows what they put in the ingredients.  If the bread could only talk...

It’s not about halal or not, it’s politic (what’s new??).  So hey, why ban such alluring delicioussss bread, where just by staring at them you could actually drool? Ignorance is bliss & I believe everything that’s yummy ARE halal!

today.. ?

     TODAY I will face life
with the conviction that this day
     will not return.

snipped that from a poem. i'm not sure what the title is nor the author (too bad). sounds nice, doncha think? all positive, all motivated.. but today, i find it tough to be all positive, upbeat, cheery. not necessarily it means i'm at the other extreme (i.e. unmotivated, negative, depressed). nope, just simply unenthusiastic and bored. ugh!!

wish there's a quick fix to this. maybe a happy potion that will switch my mood only by taking a single drop.. let me know if you know where i can find such.. (^_^)

a poem a day to keep the doctor away

Of Spoon and Fork

Sitting tightly
Waiting.. hardly have the patience
To dance quietly on bowl and plate
Without makeing a single sound
Tasting the sour-sweet of Italian dressing
Or creamy liquid from the soup bowl
Wish I could be spoon and fork
Have a taste from salad to pie
Yet no worries of unwanted calories

harry potter, etc..

** witchy witch
didn't know witch got baptized..?? not "in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit", i don't think... :)) made me think especially coz i don't read any of the overly thick the harry potter books.. is potter christian?? is christianity goes along witch craft?

** da election
finally voted, tho wasn't really interested & til last minute i couldn't find my voting card. guess i DO have to vote..

** djakarta fair
it may sound dull.. what the heck was i doing in the city's yearly fair? tradition, wd be the answer. can't remember whether i went last year, but 2 yrs ago i did. not very impressed, maybe i expected too much? well, it's understandable when we realize it's been held for more than a decade. it doesn't get any modern tho, it only shows the unprofessional organizer. the fair ground was unorganized, total disappointment. then again it's a personal opinion. the positive side, it's amusing to see the people there. some are desperate to sell, some just come to see the music performance, some dared to dance watched by passerby. too many people in one place, i guess..

for the sake of writing or privacy?

there's no gold nor glory for keeping a blog, right? well, at least that's what i think. it took me a long time to finally decide to start this.. let's see, there's the limited time to write (even to handwrite in my personal journal i've been keeping for as long as i can remember), another obstacle is when the days passed uninterestingly i tend to let it pass and miss an entry. the toughest decision was the lack of privacy.

i'm a privacy freak. i remember years ago i had quite a fight w/ sister when i found out she was reading my journal. ever since, i decided to skip very personal thoughts to myself, never have it recorded anywhere.

a journal or a blog is about writing, from there it's the keeper's choice to make the decision either to keep it for herself or share it with others. but a blog is slightly different, where anybody can just enter any name and do a search. with some luck you can find a friend's blog. so i guess once u decide to keep a journal online, there goes yr privacy. yeah, u may think it's safe just because u use an alias.. but then, what's the fun of writing but nobody else to read it and give feedback? i bet every writer has an ambition or maybe that slight craving to have an audience or two. but not necessarily personal stuff tho... ;)

so i guess i've made peace with this privacy issue and so here u r reading this. on my part i'll do my best to be consistent, from your side? nah, don't expect much, but any comment, input, feedback, scorn, complain (don't be too hard on me tho - LOL) is welcome.

thanks for making time reading this. hope it's not much of a waste ;)

to vote or not to vote?

yay.. looong weekend! this isn't without other 'obligation' tho. it's for the 2nd election on mon (july 5). 1st time presidential direct election. ugh!! if only it's scheduled a week later, then i'll get 2 long weekends... coz it's originally holiday for the office anyway (thx to the july 4th celebration). greedy greedy... ;)

hehe.. not very excited i know. well, it seems only the bules are excited about it. "don't forget to vote", boss kept reminding staff and all (literally all) visitors to vote on monday. i mean who cares??? we've followed all campaign programs, watched the commercials (which some are really ridiculous) & none of them is appealing. maybe if we can do a mix-match thing with all the candidates it'll give more promising future or so we think. well basically this election business has gone over the hill & we just want to get over with it and go on with our lives.

talk is cheap, but their talks during those campaigns sure will be held accountable. well, hope we have long memory to remember them all and collect them. a promise is a promise. guess the show will never end...

so, i shall resign.. wish you all a good weekend & vote!! ;)
